An Evening with Dr, Adrian Gonzalez, Children's Museum of Oak Ridge, 461 West Outer Drive, Oak Ridge, TN 37830,Tuesday, September 26, 2023, 5:30-7:00PM.
Join us as we meet Knoxville scientist and writer Dr. Adrian Gonzalez, author of the Lola Dérez STEM Mystery series, and environmental scientist and director of the University of Tennessee’s Water Quality Core Facility. Dr. Gonzalez wants to show young people that science and math are all around them and how it can be used to help people. The series features teen Lola Dérez and the adventures that lead her to discover how STEM can help solve mysteries.
Gonzalez was inspired to write the series to help children from underrepresented populations connect to the world of STEM and pursue STEM careers.
WBIR journalist María Guzmán, a native of Nicaragua, will interview Dr. Gonzalez about what inspired him to become a scientist, how and when he decided to inspire youth to explore STEM, and his journey in learning the craft of storytelling and how he applies it to the Lola Dérez series.
Books will be available for purchase and personalized signing by Dr. Gonzalez. Appetizers and wine will be served. Guests will also have a chance to win door prizes.
Proceeds will support the Children’s Museum of Oak Ridge, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.
