First Meeting: Ubu Roi by Alfred Jarry
6:00 PM at 311 S Weisgarber Rd, suite F

Prepare to say “merde!” to polite society. Join us as we launch A1’s new Avant-Garde Book Club with a discussion of Ubu Roi, Alfred Jarry’s absurd, anarchic, and utterly unhinged play that scandalized Paris in 1896 (and still feels eerily familiar today.) Part grotesque satire, part proto-surrealist fever dream, Ubu Roi eviscerates power, greed, and buffoonery with a rubber chicken and a laugh track from the abyss. It paved the way for Dada, Surrealism, and every art movement that ever shouted, “What even is this?!” We’ll read, we’ll rant, we’ll revel. You might even leave speaking in spirals. Free. Weird. Necessary. Be there.
