Calendar of Events

For one day only, step back in time over 200 years to the era when John Sevier, Tennessee’s first Governor and Revolutionary War hero, walked the grounds of Marble Springs. Join us on Saturday, September 21st, from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, for Sevier Day—a celebration that brings the life and times of Sevier to vivid reality through engaging activities, live music, and hands-on demonstrations, all free to the public. Discover the Day’s Highlights:

• Live Music and Dance:
o 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm: Wild Blue Yonder brings a unique blend of Folk, Americana, Old-Time, and Celtic music to the Trading Post Stage, capturing the spirit of the region's cultural roots.
o 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm: Join the Lark in the Morn English Country Dancers at the Pavilion as they lead traditional English dances from the 1600s and 1700s, accompanied by live music from the Lark in the Morn Consort. Each dance will be taught and called, with instructions provided for participants aged 8 and up.
o 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm: Haunted Like Human offers a gothic take on Appalachian Folk music, blending the past with a hauntingly modern twist at the Trading Post Stage.

• Living History in Action:
Witness the craftsmanship of the past as traditional blacksmithing is demonstrated by our skilled volunteer blacksmith alongside members of the Clinch River Blacksmithing Guild. Watch as our weaver showcases the art of weaving on a historic 200-year-old loom, while our spinner demonstrates spinning techniques using either a spinning wheel or a traditional drop spindle.

• Family-Friendly Activities:
Immerse yourself in history with a variety of 18th-century toys and games in the historic tavern, including Nine-Pin Bowling and Graces, designed for both kids and adults. Children can also take part in a planting activity near our kitchen garden, learning about 18th-century survival gardening. If you’re lucky, you might get the chance to try your hand at weaving with one of our limited hand weaving kits—so be sure to arrive early to secure yours!

• Savor History with Kraken’s Cup:
Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy complimentary tea samples while learning about the rich history of tea from Kraken’s Cup. Homemade snack boxes, take-home tea, and other delightful offerings will also be available for purchase.

• Special Presentation by Jack Neely:
At 3:00 pm, join Jack Neely from the Knoxville History Project for a special talk titled "Marble Springs and the Memory of John Sevier in South Knoxville History." Neely will explore the evolution of Marble Springs and the enduring legacy of John Sevier within the broader context of South Knoxville’s rich history.
