Knoxville Writers' Guild: What Do Editors Want?

Editors of three prestigious literary journals, Alexis Williams of New Millennium Writings, Richard Hermes of Grist, and Marianne Worthington of Still will explain what they're looking for and how they work at the May program of the Knoxville Writers' Guild. The program will take place Thursday, May 4 at 7:00 pm.

The public is invited to the program, which will be held in the Fellowship Hall of Central United Methodist Church, 201 East Third Avenue. Admission is a suggested $2 and parking is free.

The Knoxville Writers' Guild exists to facilitate a broad and inclusive community for area writers, provide a forum for information, support and sharing among writers, help members improve and market their writing skills and promote writing and creativity. Knoxville Symphony Youth Orchestra: Free Community Concert

The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will perform a FREE, family-friendly concert on Market Square in downtown Knoxville to kick off the City of Knoxville's Concerts on the Square Series. Hundreds are expected to gather for this annual outdoor concert. Music Director Aram Demirjian leads the KSO in a program of light pops, including classics from Brahms and Beethoven, plus American composers Leroy Anderson and Aaron Copland and a medley of music by George Gershwin. Sponsored by Home Federal Bank, this concert is free and open to the public; no tickets are required. Blankets and lawn chairs are encouraged. In the case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at the Bijou Theatre.

Photography by Daniel Taylor and Paper Mache Mixed Media Sculpture by Mary Saylor. Daniel Taylor is a self-taught artist who enjoys "Street Photography" or casual photos of everyday life. He also likes to shoot black and white photos of jazz artists on stage. Mary Saylor has a love of all animals and creates playful sculptures that are whimsical and humorous in nature.

Art Market Gallery: Work by Larry Gabbard and Dennis Sabo

Recent works by photographer Dennis Sabo and potter Larry Gabbard will be on display at the Art Market Gallery. An opening reception for the featured artists will begin at 5:30 p.m., May 5, during Downtown Knoxville’s monthly First Friday Art Walk, with complimentary refreshments, and music performed by Boogertown Gap.

Dennis Sabo is an internationally honored photographer specializing in contemporary abstract, stunning landscape, and gorgeous seascape photography. His fine art natural world abstracts and landscapes are often sought out by home decor and interior designers and have been included in solo and group art gallery exhibitions, commercial installations and private home collections throughout the United States and internationally.

Larry Gabbard enjoys fast-firing techniques which create a rich variety of textures and colors on bisque clay. He finds the unexpected marks made when clay, heat, and smoke interact to be among the most intriguing and challenging of finishes to perfect and reproduce.

Featuring the opening of the Annual All-Media Show by the Knoxville Watercolor Society. The exhibit does contain 90% watercolors, but other media represented are: oils, pastels, mixed media, and acrylics. KWS allows members to show other media once a year to demonstrate that some of the members are just as competent and comfortable working in other media besides watercolor.

A decade later, the “Wonderettes” reunite at their 10-year reunion, eventually discovering that no matter what life has thrown their way or what the future may bring, they can conquer it together.
