Tennessee Mountain Writers: Writing Compelling Nonfiction

Terry Shaw, a cofounder of Howling Hills Publishing, will lead the Tennessee Mountain Writers’ 2023 Fall Workshop, “Writing Compelling Nonfiction,” on Saturday, September 30 at the Oak Ridge Unitarian Universalist Church, 809 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN.
The workshop will cover the elements of a good story; pitching and getting published; gathering information; shaping your story; and editing your work. Workshop attendees should send a short writing sample (750 words or less) for critique during the workshop to terry@howlinghillspublishing.com.
Terry Shaw has worked as a newspaper reporter and columnist, a copywriter and publicist, a freelance book editor, and the content manager for a Fortune 500 company. He serves on the board of the Tennessee Mountain Writers and is a past president of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild. The workshop will run from 9:00 – 3:00 EDT with a break for lunch, which is included and will be delivered. Meal options available after registration. Coffee, tea, soft drinks, and snacks before the morning session are included. Registration fee is $85.00. Participants will be limited to 20. Registration Deadline is September 23. Astro wants to champion cross-genre music, and to create a safe, inclusive space that welcomes all artists, regardless of race, creed, nationality, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Tiny Bookshop Concerts are a series of live performances showcasing local talent in an intimately empowering environment, think Tiny Desk Concert but with even more vibes & tea time.
