The Wild Thyme Players and Nashville Stagecraft: The Pop-up Theatre Project

A local theatre company will host performing artists from Nashville for a special weekend to kick start a new project that will change the way Knoxville experiences theatre. The Wild Thyme Players will sponsor Nashville Stagecraft for a special seminar and workshop to introduce the Pop-Up Theatre Project. Pop-up theatre veterans from the Nashville group will show workshop attendees how to perform spontaneous short plays and monologues in public spaces around Knoxville.

A seminar on pop-up theatre theory and practice will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday, October 19 at the Broadway Academy of Performing Arts (BAPA), 706 N Broadway. A workshop on pop-up theatre preparation will take place later that evening at 6:00 PM at BAPA. The combined seminar and workshop fee is $25, or $20 for students/seniors/military members with ID.

Free Pop-Up Theatre Project performances will take place on Saturday, October 19 at 11:00 AM at Sequoyah Park, and again Sunday, October 20 at 12:00 PM on Market Square. The public is invited to attend.

Tennessee Theatre: The Rocky Horror Picture Show

While driving home during a rain filled night straight-laced, newly-engaged lovebirds Brad and Janet, by chance, end up at the castle of one Dr. Frank-N-Furter and his strange and bizarre entourage to find that he's having a party. This is no ordinary party and no ordinary night. This is the unveiling of the Dr's latest creation: Rocky; A man-made Adonis that will give...absolute pleasure. This is an exceedingly grand visual and musical camp satire of the golden days of the B-movie horror and science-fiction genres. Projected along with a musical soundtrack to give "audience participation" a new meaning. ****Come dressed to impress as your favorite Rocky Horror character and you could win door prizes from 10-11 p.m. The bar will offer thematic drink specials, and Willemina Snyder will kick off the stage show with the Mighty Wurlitzer at 11 p.m. The movie begins at 11:15pm, complete with a live shadow cast, leading fans in audience participation. The following items will NOT be approved: rice, candles, confetti, glitter, real food items such as toast, hot dogs, and prunes. Theatre Knoxville Downtown: Deathtrap

Deathtrap by Ira Levin is one of the popular successes of recent Broadway history. The play offers a rare and skillful blending of two priceless theatrical ingredients—gasp-inducing thrills and spontaneous laughter. Playwright Ira Levin snares the audience with the devious machinations of a writer of thrillers, Sydney Bruhl, whose recent offerings have been flops, and who is prepared to go to any lengths to improve his fortunes. Directed by Margy Ragsdale, the cast includes, John Cherry as the devious Bruhl, Lisa Blair, Eileen Conway, Darin Starr and Chuck Denny. Time Magazine said “ "If you care to assassinate yourself with laughter, try DEATHTRAP.”

Performances are Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at 8:00 PM and Sunday at 3:00 PM. Tickets are $10 plus fees for Thursday & Sunday performances and $15 plus fees for Friday & Saturday performances. If available, tickets will be sold at the door.

Come and join the spirits for a tour of Downtown Knoxville’s scariest landmarks. The tours which last approximately one and a half hours each, will visit the sites of some of Knoxville’s best kept secrets. Stories for this year include: the legend of Knoxville’s own Frankenstein, The Haunted Church Organ & Hanging Abner Baker. All tours began and end at James White’s Fort located at the intersection of Hill Avenue and Hall of Fame Drive. Ample free parking is available for tour participants at the Fort. Tours will depart at 7:00 p.m. each evening. Each tour will end with a marshmallow roast around the fires at the Fort.

A Provocative and Gripping Story
The WordPlayers will present the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play Doubt, A Parable by John Patrick Shanley. This brilliant and powerful drama features Carol Mayo Jenkins, veteran of Broadway, Off-Broadway, numerous regional theatres and star of TV’s Fame. Ms. Jenkins plays Sister Aloysius, a Catholic school principal, who takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn (Rollin Prince) of improper relations with one of the male students. Lar’Juanette Williams plays Mrs. Muller and Rachel Norman enacts Sister James. This thought-provoking drama confronts issues of hierarchical power, uncertainties and doubt. Recommended for ages 15+ Optional Post-show Discussion will follow each performance.

The District Gallery: Photographs of Paris by Ben Finch and Adel Chefridi Jewelry Show

The District Gallery is pleased to present a photographic journey through Paris as seen through the lens of photographer Ben Finch. PARIS: A Journey on Film features classic scenes of Paris and modern views of iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. Finch also captures common details of everyday French culture and turns them into memorable images with his timeless aesthetic and traditional film photography.

An opening reception will be held on Friday, October 11 from 5:30-9 p.m. with pastries by the French Market. The show continues through November 9.

A jewelry show by Adel Chefridi will also open on October 11. Chefridi’s designs emphasize simplicity, wearability, durability, and openness to light and movement. Made with natural gemstones, his elegant pieces have a friendly and peaceful feel that make them wearable every day.

Art Guild at Fairfield Glade: Fall Awards Art Show and Reception

The public is invited to the reception and opening of the Annual Fall Awards Art Show on October 11 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at the Plateau Arts Center (PCAC). The theme of the show is Wild about Art. Artists of the Art Guild at Fairfield Glade will submit their original work to be judged on this theme in the following categories: Watercolor and acrylic under glass, Oil and acrylic not under glass, Mixed media, Pastel, Colored pencil drawing, Black and white drawing, Photography, Three dimensional, and Jewelry. Awards will be given for each category. This year's judge is Bobbie Crews of Knoxville. The reception will include refreshments viewing of the new show, and presentation of awards.

BOO! at the Zoo, a Halloween tradition for 27 years, is a family event featuring devilishly good music and games at the Monster Mash tent in The Clayton Family Kids Cove, friendly costumed characters throughout the zoo, and the only “haunted” carousel in East Tennessee, the Scary-Go-Round. (How can you tell it’s haunted? It goes backwards, of course.)
One of the highlights of BOO! at the Zoo is trick-or-treating along the BOO! Trail, where little trick-or-treaters can fill their bag with goodies as they make their way through the zoo.
