Dallas String Quartet is where Bach meets Bon Jovi. Dallas String Quartet- DSQ Electric is an international music sensation. Their music is a fusion of classical and contemporary music on both traditional and electric strings. As a result, with the 2016 release of their fourth album “DSQ”, they continue to expand their passionate following on Pandora, Spotify, and Sirius XM radio. Additionally, DSQ performs as a quartet with the full accompaniment of drums and guitar.

The Wall Street Journal, A & E, WFAA- ABC, and ESPN have all featured DSQ Electric. In addition to performing internationally, DSQ performed “at home” for Presidents Obama and Bush, The College Football Playoff, NBA and NFL Organizations. Also, DSQ sold out venues like the House of Blues and Symphony Halls. They played alongside Josh Groban, Chicago and the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.

DSQ is comprised of composer and violinist Ion Zanca, violinists Eleanor Dunbar and Melissa Priller, bassist Young Heo, guitarist Anthony Plant and percussionist/drummer Efren Guzman. Above all, DSQ takes you on a journey to the nexus of classical music and modern pop where artists like Beethoven and Bono collide.

Winners of the Beverly Hills National Auditions, YuEun Kim and Ines Thomé met in 2013 when they both had just moved to the US. YuEun, from Korea and Ines, from Germany. Ms. Kim, a violinist, has won top prizes at the Korean Times Music Competition, Kumho Art Hall Recital Series Competition, Sungjung Competition, Music Education News Concours, and the Seoul High Schools Chamber Music Competition. Ines Thomé, a multi-instrumentalist in many different styles, plays electric guitar, lute, theorbo, baroque guitar, banjo, and mandolin.

Join acclaimed author Jack Neely for an engaging talk as he discusses his Historic Knoxville: The Curious Visitor’s Guide to Its Stories and Places, a comprehensive and engaging 200-page, full-color, guide to scores of sites and institutions relevant to the city’s endlessly fascinating, but often little known, history.
Jack will identify and discuss historic locations across the city that define Knoxville’s uniqueness as an Appalachian town deeply rooted in the past, as well as the remarkable individuals who left their mark on the “scruffy city”, making it quite possibly the most American of cities. A book signing will follow.
A well-known local author and historian, Neely is executive director of the Knoxville History Project and for many years authored the popular “Knoxville’s Secret History,” column in the Metro Pulse. Other publications include Market Square: A History of the Most Democratic Place on Earth, Knoxville: This Obscure Prismatic City, From the Shadow Side: And Other Stories Of Knoxville, Tennessee, and The Marble City: A Photographic Tour of Knoxville’s Graveyards.

Keep Knoxville Beautiful: America Recycles Day Recycling Collection Party

Keep Knoxville Beautiful will be hosting a recycling collection party on November 16 in celebration of America Recycles Day! The event will take place at Ijams Nature Center, located at 2915 Island Home Avenue, from 11am to 2pm.

Keep Knoxville Beautiful will be collecting glass bottles and jars, plastic film and bags, and gently-used clothing for donation. At noon, Keep Knoxville Beautiful will be organizing a clothing swap where recyclers can swap their old for new-to-them clothing. All remaining clothes after the swap will be donated to AMVETS Thrift Stores and South Knoxville Elementary.

Captain Muchacho’s food truck will be ready to serve lunch throughout the event, and Sierra Nevada Brewing Company will be delivering up some beer – and the first beer is free to recyclers! Keep Knoxville Beautiful staff will be on site to answer all your questions on litter prevention, recycling, and beautification in Knox County.

America Recycles Day is a nationally-recognized day set on promoting and celebrating recycling in the US. This day is an intiative of Keep America Beautiful initiative and celebrated nationally on November 15 each year.

UT Arboretum: Third Saturday HIke

Come on out to the UT Arboretum and enjoy a brisk hike in the cool fall air. The trees still have some color and the woods are lovely in November.

The UT Arboretum Society’s monthly Third Saturday Hike for November will be held November 16 at the UT Arboretum at 9:00 a.m. The hike coincides with National Take a Hike Day on the following day, November 17th when thousands of other hikers across the country enjoy a walk in the brisk fall air.

Meet at the UT Arboretum Visitors Center, 901 S. Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge at 9:00 a.m. Please wear clothes appropriate to the weather and boots or good shoes for outdoor walking. Hikes will be varied in intensity level, and the route may be changed due to weather conditions or leader’s choice. These hikes are designed to be suitable for all, but the difficulty level of the hike is dependent on individual fitness. Be sure to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated at you hike. This hike will be led by a volunteer familiar with the UT Arboretum and the trail system.

Museum of Appalachia: Southern Women Book Signing

The Museum of Appalachia will be hosting a book signing of Southern Women, from the editors of Garden & Gun Magazine: Amanda Heckert and Allison Glock.

Newly released Southern Women features more than 100 stories of female innovators, artists, and icons in order to foster a greater appreciation and awareness of some of the South’s most notable women. For $50, guests will receive a signed book, enjoy hors d’oeuvres and specialty drinks, and engage in conversation with the Garden & Gun editors.
