Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts: 18th Sevier County Juried Biennial Exhibition

The 18th Sevier County Biennial Juried Exhibition is a mixed media art exhibition that recognizes and fosters skills and talents of the artists and craftspeople who call the rich region of Sevier County home. Community members are invited to view the exhibition and attend the opening reception and presentation of awards on Friday, January 20, 6-8 pm.

The Biennial’s juror is Teri Alea, executive director of Tennessee Craft in Nashville, Tennessee. Teri leads a statewide craft organization which provides support, guidance and professional development for craft artists across the state. Twice a year, Tennessee Craft organizes craft fairs that showcase more than 200 artists that showcase beautifully handcrafted objects made in Tennessee and across the nation.

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts: Okay - an exhibition by 2016-2017 Artists-in-Residence

You are invited to view new works by Arrowmont’s Artists-in-Residence – Grant Benoit, Richard W. James, Maia Leppo, Austin Riddle and Emily Schubert. Marking the mid-point in their 11-month residency, Okay responds to their emotions after the Gatlinburg wildfires. “We were incredibly lucky – it is going to be okay and life will roll on,” says Grant Benoit.

Great Smoky Mountains Outdoor Expo

The Great Smoky Mountains Outdoor Expo is coming to the Knoxville Civic Coliseum on January 21 and 22.

The Great Smoky Mountains Outdoor Expo is an all outdoors exposition showcasing vendors and exhibitors for outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. Everything from hunting and fishing, hiking and kayaking, artisan knives, African safaris, 4 wheeling, adventure parks, and more will all be at the Expo.

The World Champion Jack Pine Lumberjacks will be educating and entertaining throughout the weekend and fashion shows will feature the latest in high tech gear and outdoor wear. Seminars from expert instructors will be scheduled throughout the two day event and a climbing wall will even be erected to test your skill or inspire a brand new passion!

The Great Smoky Mountains Outdoor Expo is coming to the Knoxville Civic

Oak Ridge Civic Music Association: Cumberland Piano Trio

The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association is pleased to present the Cumberland Piano Trio. Established in 2013 as an outgrowth of the Oak Ridge Civic Music Association’s Isotone series, the Cumberland Piano Trio has become well-known for championing the works of 21st century composers. The Trio made their New York recital debut at Symphony Space with Isotone in May 2016. The trio includes violinist Susan Eddlemon, cellist Dan Allcott, and pianist Emi Kagawa.

A graduate of The Juilliard School in New York City, Susan Eddlemon was the first female violinist to receive a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Juilliard. She has performed and taught violin in Knoxville and Oak Ridge for over twenty years, and she is a member of the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra. Dan Allcott attended the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University, where he was the first student to be accepted simultaneously to the doctoral program in both cello and conducting. He is well-known to East Tennessee audiences as the Music Director for the Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra. A soloist and chamber musician who has performed throughout the United States, Canada, Italy, and Japan, Emi Kagawa has won numerous national and international competitions, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition at Juilliard and the Nancy Clark International Piano Competition.

The concert will feature Gabriel Faure’s Piano Trio in D minor and Johannes Brahms’ Piano Trio No. 1 in B major.

The Oak Ridge Civic Music Association is a proud participant in the Penny4Arts program and offers free admission for students 18 & under to all Oak Ridge Symphony Orchestra, Chorus, and Chamber Series performances. Tickets for the concert are $25 for adults and $10 for young adults (19-29 years old). Seating is general admission.

Learn Bridge In A Day

The Knoxville Association of Bridge Clubs is offering the introductory class "Learn Bridge in A Day" on Saturday, January 21, from 1:00 to 5:00 pm. The cost is $20 per person.

The class is a fun way to learn to the basics of bridge. You will be taught by Kevin Wilson, a Knoxville native and nationally recognized bridge teacher and professional.

Jubilee Community Arts: Wallace Coleman

Blues Harmonica

Growing up in East Tennessee, Wallace Coleman was captivated by the sounds he heard late at night from Nashville's WLAC. It was on WLAC that Coleman first heard his greatest musical influences: Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters. Coleman left Tennessee in 1956 to find work in Cleveland. He began playing professionally with Cleveland's Guitar Slim and caught the ear of audience member Robert "Jr." Lockwood, joining his band in 1987. Still based in Cleveland, Wallace has been leading his own band since 1997.

Tribute Entertainment: Elvis Tribute Show

R&M Tribute Entertainment presents a belated Elvis Tribute Show (due to the winter storm) celebrating and paying tribute to the King of Rock N' Roll on his 82nd birthday at Hudsplace Event Center Saturday, January 21 at 7:30 PM. The show will consist of Elvis through the years in stage style concert performances. Hudsplace Event Center is located at 4110 E Broadway, Maryville, TN. VIP $20 and general admission is $15.00. You may call in advance to reserve your seats (best seats) or tickets can also be purchase at the door at 6:30 PM.

Knoxville Children's Theatre: The Surprising Story of the Three Little Pigs

The hilarious play by Linda Daugherty has been a hit at children's theatres all across the country, since its premiere in 2000. Three classic fairy tales ("The Three Little Pigs," "Goldilocks and the Three Bears," and "The Three Billy Goats Gruff") begin in their usual fashion, but along the way, the characters break a breaking point! The pigs wonder what life would be like if the Wolf weren't always at their door, th billy goats can't face one more trespasser, and Papa Bear has had enough of that meddlesome little girl! The three trios join forces to rewrite their stories, just as audiences are inspired to conquer their fears by taking control of their own destinies. A smash hit comedy, first created by Dallas Children's Theatre!
