Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center: 2nd Annual Kids Take Over the Museum

There will be loads of activities and demonstrations geared toward kids featuring Open Hearth Cooking, Spinning and Weaving, Candle Dipping, Pottery, and so much more. We are bringing back our StoryWalk which will feature a local author, as well as a concert by our Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) students. There will be food trucks on site as well. 40th Annual Bob Watt Fishing Rodeo

Get your rods and reels ready for Farragut’s Youth Fishing Rodeo, Saturday, May 11, at Anchor Park. Kids ages 12 and under are invited to create their first fish stories that can be told for years to come at the 40th annual Bob Watt Youth Fishing Rodeo. Spend the morning baiting your hook and casting your line while competing for prizes. This event is free and open to the public. Register at https://townoffarragut.recdesk.com/Community/Program starting April 1. There are two timeslots available: 8-9 a.m. and 10-11 a.m.

The Town of Farragut will provide limited worms for bait, and a limited number of fishing poles will be available for use during the event. Poles will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis; participants are encouraged to bring their own poles. Participants may also bring their own bait.

Anchor Park is located at 11730 Turkey Creek Road. The fishing rodeo will be held rain or shine; however, in the case of severe inclement weather, check Farragut Parks & Recreation’s social media for updates.

A1LabArts: World Collage Day + Workshop

Join A1LabArts for a day to celebrate collage, aka painting with scissors. The KMA art room will have 8 large rectangular tables to collaborate with 3-5 people to create one group work on matt board. For those who prefer to work alone, there will be blank cards /envelopes or post card sized card stock to collage. We will provide old magazines, maps, photos, brochures and glue sticks. Participants should bring their own adult scissors and are encouraged to bring their own collage materials to share with the group. The event is free and open to all artistic levels.

Marble Springs State Historic Site: The Kitchen Garden: An 18th Century Homesteader’s Source for Food, Flavorings, and Home Remedies

Marble Springs State Historic Site is excited to host "The Kitchen Garden: An 18th Century Homesteader’s Source for Food, Flavorings, and Home Remedies." This event, part of the ongoing "Beyond Petticoats: Courage and Conviction in 18th-Century Women" series, will take place on Saturday, May 11th, starting at 12:00 PM.

Deborah Bates, who has spearheaded the development of the Kitchen Garden at Marble Springs, will guide attendees through the historical significance and practical aspects of traditional 18th-century gardens. The event aims to provide an educational perspective on the methods used by homesteaders to nourish their families and address common ailments.

Following the presentation, the attendees will have the opportunity to join Deborah for a guided tour of the recently redone Kitchen Garden, which serves as a living example of her talk. The tour will conclude with a Q&A session, where attendees can discuss and ask questions about historical gardening and herbalism practices.
