Jubilee Community Arts: Traditional Irish Arts of Knoxville
Category: Music
Jubilee Community Arts and Traditional Irish Arts of Knoxville present a night of Irish music at the Laurel Theater featuring Haley Richardson and Don Penzien, with special guest Will Bryant, Saturday, September 21 at 8 pm, sponsored by Boyd’s Jig & Reel.
Haley and Will are fresh off the Riverdance circuit and are joined by Don for an evening of Irish music and dance. Don and Haley toured regularly together until Haley became a core musician for Riverdance where she met Will. Taking advantage of Haley and Will’s brief fall break the three musicians have teamed up for a series of exciting shows across the US.
Haley Richardson: Haley has amassed a long list of All Ireland and other championship titles (solo fiddle and slow airs) and has performed the world over. Haley brings a rare dynamism and energy to her music, informed by her thorough knowledge of the Sligo fiddle style. Currently the fiddler for the 25th Anniversary tour of Riverdance, Haley has performed with many of the best-known Irish musicians including The Chieftains, Altan, Dervish, Mick Moloney and Green Fields of America, Pride of New York, Liz Carroll with Cherish the Ladies, John Whelan, Paddy Keenan, The Máirtín de Cógáin Project.
Don Penzien has long been a top-flight performer of Irish traditional music. He frequently is on the road playing concerts and festivals with Gailfean and The Máirtín de Cógáin Project and has served as accompanist for numerous other well-known performers. Widely recognized for his reserved backing style, Don’s dexterous work on DADGAD-tuned guitar provides solid, driving rhythms to traditional tunes as well as perceptive and sensitive accompaniments to songs and airs.
William Bryant: A native of Sydney Australia, Will has been dancing since he was four years old. He trained in various styles from ballet to tap to jazz to contemporary, including Irish step dance. Will has toured as a lead dancer with Riverdance for nine years.
$20 at the door, $15 General Audience Advance, $14 JCA members, students & seniors 65+

Clarence Brown Theatre: Knoxville
KNOXVILLE
BOOK BY FRANK GALATI
MUSIC BY STEPHEN FLAHERTY
LYRICS BY LYNN AHRENS
BASED ON THE NOVEL 'A DEATH IN THE FAMILY' BY JAMES AGEE
BASED, IN PART, ON THE PLAY 'ALL THE WAY HOME' BY TAD MOSEL
Based on James Agee’s autobiographical, Pulitzer Prize-winning masterpiece 'A Death in the Family', this moving and innovative new musical reunites the dynamic Tony Award®-winning creative team behind 'Ragtime'. The story begins as an adult Agee struggles to write his greatest work about the event that touched his young life and the effect it had on his family and his future. An evocative depiction of loss and grief and the forces that shape who we are, 'Knoxville' is a universal coming-of-age story about family, faith, and love—and about the boy who will grow up to write it. With a sweeping musical score and brilliant cast, this is a must-see event.
