Smoky Mountain Air Show

Our P-51 Mustang "Red Nose", SBD Dauntless "Lady in Blue", and Corsair 530 will partecipate in the Smoky Mountain Air Show in Knoxville, TN. Rides will be available for purchase in the P-51 and SBD. The P-51 and Corsair will be performing in the airshow.

Dogwood Arts: Dogwood Art DeTour

A two-day event where local artists welcome the public into their actual studio space to experience the working creative process as the artist demonstrates the making of a work of art. When it comes to art, the creative process can be just as interesting as the finished product. Dogwood Art DeTour provides an intimate look into local artists’ working studios. Visitors are invited to watch as the artists produce some of East Tennessee’s spectacular works of art. Take some time to enjoy a spring day with the arts. A variety of artistic media will be on display showcasing the diverse talents that are present in this area. All studios will have completed works of art for sale!

Appalachian Arts Craft Center in Norris, TN is participating in the Dogwood Art DeTour on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17 from 10 am to 5 pm each day at the Center. The DeTour is an event where local artists welcome the public into their studio space to experience the working creative process as the artist demonstrates the making of a work of art. Several artists will be at the Center demonstrating mixed media, painting, pottery, and more. In addition, there will be craft activities for kids. The event is free for all ages. Hand typesetting & presses rolling for 2 days so you can see what hot off the press looks like. Crank a print yourself to take home. Check out the Laura Baisden's reductive linocut work and Julie Belcher's beeswax fused encaustic process in addition to the letterpress printmaking studio.

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts: Sixth Annual Arrowmont Golf Tournament

Enjoy a day of golf, fun, food and cash prizes at the Sammy Dale Breeden Memorial Golf Tournament – Saturday, April 16, 2016 at the Gatlinburg Golf Course, Pigeon Forge, TN – hosted by Arrowmont board member, Margit Worsham. This tournament is in recognition of Sammy Dale Breeden who gave 50 years of service to the Gatlinburg golf community.

Benefiting Arrowmont’s educational programs, the golf tournament supports Sevier County art programs including adult and children’s community classes, local resident scholarships and ArtReach. ArtReach is Arrowmont’s annual program to bring a full day of art instruction to approximately 1,200 school children of Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Sevierville and Seymour. Over its 25-year history, ArtReach has provided hands-on art education to more than 25,000 Sevier County children. Students work in professionally equipped studios taught by professional artists using specialized equipment, new materials and learning arts vocabulary. Arrowmont provides ArtReach to public schools at no cost.

Bring a team or register individually - $100 per player or $350 per team of four. Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, nearest to the pin, longest drive and $10,000 hole-in-one competition. Free lunch and drinks will be provided at 11:30 am. Tee off is at 1:00 pm. Complementary cold beer, moonshine, soft drinks and snacks are available throughout the tournament.

Knoxville Writers Guild: Blogger Alan Sims

Join Alan Sims, AKA Knoxville Urban Guy, at a Knoxville Writers' Guild sponsored workshop on Saturday, April 16. Listen as Sims shares his story of a lifetime of writing in which for decades he failed to find the success he sought. Follow his journey into the world of digital content where he ultimately achieved that elusive goal for writers: writing full-time and earning actual money along the way. The session will focus on opportunities, pitfalls and practical lessons learned about building and marketing a digital presence whatever your writing genre.

Sims's blog, "Inside of Knoxville," twice won the Metro Pulse Best Blog award (2013, 2015). Last year, Alan won Best Blog from the Mercury and the Blank Newspaper, and was voted into the East Tennessee Writers Hall of Fame.

The event, which will be open to the public, will be from at Central United Methodist Church, 201 E. Third Ave. in the Small Fellowship Hall. To ensure your seat, please register in advance. Attendees should enter off of the large parking lot behind the church. The cost is $35 for KWG members, $40 for nonmembers, and $15 for students. The building is handicapped accessible.

Students use individual computers to explore Cyndis List. This site is a categorized and cross-referenced index to over 340,000 genealogical resources on the internet. All of the sites may be called up directly from Cyndis List. Participants should bring information on all research “brick walls” or stopping points.
