Dragonfly Aerial and Circus Arts Studio: Tenth Annual Circus Extravaganza

Category: Dance, movement, Festivals, special events and Kids, family

The circus is coming to town, and you’re invited! Young and old alike will enjoy Knoxville’s Tenth Annual Circus Extravaganza, which benefits programming for Knoxville youth in the community. During the last nine years, over 10,000 audience members have gasped and cheered for Knoxville’s hometown circus--Dragonfly Aerial and Circus Arts Studio (DFACAS)--as local talent perform daring and entertaining acts in the air and on the ground.

“The shows are always fun,” says Lissa McLeod a board member and instructor at the studio, “Not only do we get to present high quality entertainment for families, but we also create opportunities for at-risk kids to experience circus through our scholarship fund.” According to McLeod, in the past 10 years, over 200 local children benefited from the funds raised.

The Extravaganza, sponsored by WIVK, Tomato Head Restaurant, Event Rentals by Rothchild, Three Rivers Market, East TN Foundation and the Tennessee Arts Commission, includes four performances at Dragonfly Aerial and Circus Arts Studio. CDC recommendations will be followed and seating will be in 2-6 person pods outside under a tent. You can catch a show at two different times across three days:
● Friday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m.
● Saturday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m.
● Saturday, May 15 at 7:30 p.m.
● Sunday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m.

An online show will also be available on May 28th with extended viewing. Please see our website (www.dfaas.com) for additional information regarding online performances. Tickets are $12 per person. They are available for purchase at www.dfaas.com.

Domino Ensemble: Online Songwriting Workshop with Sean McCollough

Category: Classes, workshops, Free event and Music

Free · Online Event
Friday, May 14, 2021 at 3 PM

In this workshop, performing-songwriter Sean McCollough will discuss songwriting as both process and inspiration. He will talk about some of the nuts and bolts of songwriting such as constructing melody, chord progressions, rhythm, rhyme schemes, etc. But he also recognizes that much of songwriting is more intuitive than simply putting together the pieces, so he will also explore finding sources of inspiration and how to break free old habits and explore new ideas. He will share his own experiences, along with those of fellow songwriters, including his wife who has a very different process than his own. He asks that, if you are able, you bring a song that you are working on – even if it’s just lyrics, or just melody, or just a chord progression. This is not a requirement to attend the workshop, but there will be a little time in the middle to work on something of your own and get feedback from Sean. If there is time at the end, a few people may be able to share what they are working on.

REGISTRATION HERE: https://forms.gle/vmcuaLHCTtVahcX88
Questions: info@dominoensemble.com
Participants will receive a Zoom link the day before the event.
