Oak Ridge Playhouse: Nunsense

Category: Theatre

NUNSENSE
by Dan Goggin

What happens when a convent cook (Sister Julia, Child of God) accidentally poisons fifty-two nuns and the order can’t afford to bury the last four? The surviving Sisters raise the money by putting on a show! Their God-given talents are put to the test as they sing, dance, and joke their way through an outrageous evening of hilariously hysterical fun and frolic in our return to live performances! Guaranteed to lift your spirits, you don’t have to be Catholic to love the inspired madness of Nunsense!

Tennessee Theater: Summer Movie Magic - The Big Leboswki

Category: Film and Kids, family

Summer Movie Magic presented by Denark Construction is a long-standing tradition celebrating our legacy as a movie palace. Moviegoers will travel back in time and see these classics, as they should be: in a historic theater originally built as a movie palace surrounded by other movie-lovers, enjoying some popcorn and a cold drink. This year, we are pulling out all the stops with a lineup of blockbuster hits! And true to tradition, hear the Mighty Wurlitzer organ fill the auditorium with magnificent music prior to the movie. Experience some of your favorite classics on the big screen!

July 30, 8 PM and Aug 1, 3 PM: The Big Leboswki

Jeff Bridges plays Jeff Lebowski who insists on being called "the Dude," a laid-back, easygoing burnout who happens to have the same name as a millionaire whose wife owes a lot of dangerous people a whole bunch of money -- resulting in the Dude having his rug soiled, sending him spiraling into the Los Angeles underworld. (Rotten Tomatoes) This film is 1 hour 57 mins and is rated R (Drug Content|Brief Violence|Pervasive Strong Language|Sexuality).

Nief-Norf presents: Composer :: Performer :: Improviser Summit

Category: Classes, workshops, Festivals, special events and Music

Realize your complete musicianship and achieve the demands of a 21st-century artist
Online collaborative summit
July 26–August 01, 2021

Presented by Nief-Norf, this online summit focuses on hybrid musicianship: working across disciplines as a composer, performer, and improviser. This inspiration comes from several sources, including the increased demand for the Performer–Composer track at our annual Nief-Norf Summer Festival, as well as the College Music Society’s 2013 Manifesto, which "takes the position that improvisation and composition provide a stronger basis for educating musicians today than the prevailing model of training performers in the interpretation of older works." Multidisciplinary approaches to music making has always been at the core of Nief-Norf and its programs, and our recent nnSF guest artist Wadada Leo Smith and his beautiful music only further inspired those efforts.

Summit participants will collaborate with one another in the creation of new imaginative works, guided by individualized coaching and mentoring from faculty including Kendall Williams, Carolyn Chen, Jordan Munson, and Andy Bliss. Participants will also have the opportunity to attend keynote presentations from guest artists as well as present their original work through online Norf Space events and the virtual marathon concert on Sunday, August 01, 2021.

This summit is a confluence of a wide range of skills and perspectives—all ages and levels of experience are welcome.
