Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, from the novella Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson
Directed by Tom Eubanks

A new and shocking version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic tale of depravity, lust, love and horror. On the fog-bound streets of Victorian-era London, Henry Jekyll’s experiments with exotic “powders and tinctures” have brought forth his other self—Edward Hyde, a sensualist and villain free to commit the sins Jekyll is too civilized to comprehend. When Hyde meets a woman who stirs his interest, Jekyll fears for her life and decides to end his experiments. But Hyde has other ideas, and so the two sides battle each other in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse to determine who shall be the master and who his slave. With multiple Hydes portrayed by members of the cast.

Gallery 1010: Primordial Ocean by Emily McCall Roca Rice and Saloni Parekh

Category: Exhibitions, visual art and Free event

Contact information of artist: Emily - erice16@vols.utk.edu and Saloni - Sparekh2@vols.utk.edu

Primordial Ocean is a two-person exhibition and installation that will feature art by Emily McCall Roca Rice and Saloni Parekh. Primordial Ocean explores the basic vibrations of sound at the beginning of time. The sound from which the universe birthed. The sound that might know the beginning or might not know.

Parekh and Roca Rice collaborated on several objects together to offer a physical and visual aid. This will consist of ceramic vessels that might serve as pathways for the vibrations to reverberate throughout, forming choreography. Painting and drawing through ceramics, gathering, or fabricating sounds, installing the object, each step in the practice becomes an act of revelation.

Gallery 1010, 100 S. Gay Street, Suite 114, Knoxville, TN 37902. Hours: Reception Fri 5-7 PM, Sat 10 AM – 1 PM, or by appointment. Information: https://gallery1010.utk.edu/

STEVE MARTIN & MARTIN SHORT - YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE TODAY!
FT. THE STEEP CANYON RANGERS
Friday, October 14 at 8PM // Civic Auditorium

Steve Martin and Martin Short’s “You Won’t Believe What They Look Like Today!” is a show that redefines the form in unexpected and profound ways, from two of the funniest, most influential and acclaimed talents of the past century. Their humor is often subversive, but it is always a joyous self-deprecating romp from two comedy masters driven to make each other laugh as much as the audience. The jokes come at you at a rapid-fire pace with little set-up and big punch lines as they mock Hollywood and the fickle nature of celebrity, but the comedy truly soars when they lovingly (and relentlessly) roast each other. Martin and Short’s chemistry and timing on stage reflects a friendship forged over three decades which developed when they met for the first time on the set of the 1986 film “Three Amigos.” These two titans of comedy have been touring together since 2015, when they launched their first live show entitled “A Very Stupid Conversation.”

For many, “Davy Crockett” conjures up thoughts of coonskin caps and killing “b’ars when he was only three.” In this presentation by Scott Williams, author of the recently published The Accidental Fame and Lack of Fortune of West Tennessee’s David Crockett, you’ll discover there is much more to the real frontiersman than you may know. Williams will share what propelled Crockett’s fascinating journey from frontier to fame to international icon, while also examining the birth of Tennessee during one of the most fascinating periods in American history.

Scott Williams is the president and CEO of Discovery Park of America, a 100,000-square-foot museum and 50-acre heritage park, in Union City, Tenn. Previously, he served as president and COO of the Newseum in Washington, D.C., and vice president of Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc., in Memphis. He currently serves on the Tennessee Tourism Committee of the Department of Tourist Development for the State of Tennessee, the boards of the Obion County Chamber of Commerce and Hospitality Tennessee, the advisory board of the UT Martin College of Business and Global Affairs, and the Northwest Tennessee Arts Center Advisory Board. His third book, The Accidental Fame and Lack of Fortune of West Tennessee’s David Crockett, was published in 2021. Oct 8-23, Thu-Sun at 7 PM (and Sun Oct 16, 2 PM)
At Ijams Nature Center, 2915 Island Home Avenue Knoxville, TN 37920

Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure is the story of what happens when a man, new in his power and deep in his religion, forces a city to its knees and a woman to the end of her faith. Angelo sentences Claudio to death for impregnating his longtime sweetheart. When Isabella, Claudio’s sister and a soon-to-be Nun, begs for Angelo to change his mind, he offers her a choice: Claudio can die, or she can give up her chastity to Angelo in exchange for Claudio’s life.
“[W]ith an outstretched throat, I’ll tell the world aloud what man thou art.” “Who will believe thee, Isabel?”
Guests should bring their own lawn chairs or blankets so they will have room to spread out and observe proper social distancing while enjoying the outdoor performances.
