March 12– Ed Gantt, Living Historian, “The Days After the Civil War: All Was Not Well for All”

The Knoxville Civil War Roundtable is a organization dedicated to remembering and studying the Civil War in East Tennessee. Meetings are held a Buddy's Banquet Hall (5806 Kingston Pike). A dinner buffet is served at 7 p.m. Cost is $15.00 for members and $17.00 for nonmembers. Reservations must be made or cancelled not later than 11 a.m. on the day before the meeting. Call (865) 671-9001 to make or cancel reservations.

A guest speaker, normally an author, educator, or historian of national prominence in his or her field, speaks for approximately one hour, on some aspect of the American Civil War. This address is followed by a brief question and discussion period. Cost (for those not dining) is $3.00 for members and $5.00 for nonmembers.

The normal schedule of events at each meeting is as follows:
7:00 p.m. - Buffet Dinner
7:45 p.m. - Roundtable Business
8:00 p.m. - Speaker + Questions/Discussion
9:15 p.m. - Adjournment

In honor of Women’s History Month, our next Maple Hall program on March 12 will be, tentatively, a graphic presentation of memorable and internationally significant female performers throughout Knoxville history, from the 1860s to the 21st century. Featured, among many others, will be Lillie Langtry, Sarah Bernhardt, Sissieretta Jones, Sophie Tucker, Marian Anderson, Fanny Brice, Fifi D’Orsay, the very young Ella Fitzgerald, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Tina Turner—and if we have time, we may even get around to Dolly. We’ll talk about where they played, show ads for the shows (many of them recently discovered and not widely known), and discuss the context of Knoxville’s shows in their careers.

Mural Workshop: Six new murals are now on display in the Curio at Maker Exchange as a part of the 2nd Annual Mural Workshop hosted by Dogwood Arts and professional muralist Megan Lingerfelt. Six local/regional artists were selected to participate in the workshop — with each one designing and painting an 8x8ft mural over the last two weeks. The murals will remain on display through the end of May 2024.

The Dogwood Arts Synergy Exhibition showcases artwork by gifted K-12 art students alongside their art educators in an exhibition at the Clayton Center for the Arts in Maryville! See the results of the artistic student-teacher synergy that happens every day in our schools. Awards and scholarships are presented to encourage further development of these art students’ artistic aptitude.

A Closing Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held at the Clayton Center for the Arts (502 East Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville, TN 37804) on March 28th from 5:30-7:30PM. Awards will be presented at 6:30pm. All artists, families, and friends are encouraged to attend this wonderful celebration!

Join us on the second Saturday in March for the exhibition reception for 'Jars of Clay' by Stephen Phillips! Stephen Phillips has always been intrigued by the arts whether music, dance, or visual arts. His start in ceramics can be linked back to his childhood as a kid who found enjoyment in the mixing of earth with water.

Artist Statement: In my recent work, I have been exploring the juxtaposition of textures and colors. I use underglazes as the base color and gloss glazes to give a differentiation between the textures and appearances provided by both glazes.

Come enjoy several new works from Yigal Ozeri, utilizing AI technology to create the compositions. Photorealism as a genre pushes the line between technology and fine art.

Photorealist, Smithsonian-collected artist, Yigal Ozeri, portrays both sensual fantasy and hyper detailed reality in his photorealistic paintings. His oeuvre is characterized by two distinct styles: ethereal portraiture of women existing in nature “without malice” and a realist perspective of America through a regional lens. Originally an abstract painter, Ozeri took on the helm of realism through early inspiration by Spanish Baroque painters like Diego Velázquez.
