The Bottom: Tiny Bookshop Concert with J.Bu$h

  • March 16, 2024
  • 7:00 PM

Category: Music

Saturday, March 16, 7:00 PM at The Bottom Bookshop. Join us for our next Tiny Bookshop Concert with J.Bu$h!

For J.Bu$h, music and creating have always been at the forefront of his life. Ever since middle school, he’s been making and recording music; as he has grown, music has become a creative outlet to express his hopes for what he will become and what society could be.

In his journey both as an artist and a person, J.Bu$h seeks to choose growth over comfort. He fearlessly asks for feedback from his community of listeners, and has learned to keep creating, even when the feedback he receives isn’t what he was hoping to hear. Utilizing the voices of others and a healthy dose of self-reflection, J.Bu$h has tuned out the distractions to settle into his own purpose: staying true to his love for hip-hop while focusing on meaningful messaging. Knoxville has been the backdrop of his career, providing him with a place to create and produce music, provide graphic design services, and even start a product line of beard oils, all while supporting other artists and building community. In 2013, J.Bu$h went from creating solo to forming The Good Guy Collective, a group of like-minded artists creating together and promoting community and collaboration through hip-hop culture. J.Bu$h continues to make music on his own as well, releasing his album, Peach Fuzz, in 2022.

UT Arboretum Society: Father-Daughter Hike

Category: Free event, Kids, family and Science, nature

The UT Arboretum Society’s monthly hike for March will be held Saturday,
March 16, 9:00 AM, at the UT Arboretum, 901 S. Illinois Avenue in Oak Ridge.
The theme this month will be a Father-Daughter hike. This is a free program
offered by the University of Tennessee Arboretum Society. No registration is
necessary. No pets please.

This is the twelfth annual Father-Daughter hike, but everyone, regardless of
age, is welcome to participate. We encourage grandfathers to bring their
granddaughters, uncles to bring their nieces, everyone to bring someone special or
just bring yourself! Meet shortly before 9:00 a.m. in the parking lot by the Visitors
Center just as you turn into the Arboretum.

Learn about the UT Arboretum’s trails on this short trail hike (1 to 1.5
hours). Several experienced volunteers will offer hikes on different trails and at
different intensity levels. Participants may choose whatever hike appeals most to
them. This is an early spring occasion to spend some quality time outdoors and to
learn about the UT Arboretum’s trails.

Please wear clothes appropriate to the weather and boots or good shoes for
outdoor walking. We aim for this hike to be suitable for all, but the difficulty level
of the hike is dependent on individual fitness. Be sure to bring a water bottle to
stay hydrated as you hike. No pets, please. Due to ongoing research projects on our
grounds, we are unable to allow pets.

Theater 23: As it is in Heaven

  • March 15, 2024 — March 17, 2024

Category: Theatre

"As it is in Heaven" a play produced by Theater 23 which will run Friday and Saturday, March 15th - 16th at 7:30 PM, and Saturday and Sunday, March 16th and 17th at 2:30 PM at the Old City Performing Arts Center at 111 State Street, Knoxville.

A religious community is changed when a non-believer has an ecstatic experience. The 1830's Shaker society of Pleasant Hill, Kentucky, is set in ordered ways. Their once dramatic form of worship has by now developed into routine. The arrival of Fanny upsets the harmony; the Sisters suspect her to be a "winter Shaker," one who suddenly converts when life gets too hard on the farm. Fanny sees angels in the meadow, and soon all the young women are receiving spiritual "gifts" of songs, drawings, ideas and giggles, completely upsetting the community. The leaders question Fanny's intentions and honesty: Is this a resurgence of the original Shaker celebration or something manufactured by Fanny so that she can remain with the Shakers?

Tickets are available at Tickets are available for the play at https://www.onthestage.tickets/show/theater-23
