TennGreen Land Conservancy's fourth annual Hike-a-Thon is taking place during the entire month of April 2024.

The month-long fundraising and adventure competition supports the protection of Tennessee's lands and waters and encourages people of all ages and abilities to get outside for the chance to win awesome prizes. While this event benefits Tennessee nature, participants can adventure and compete from anywhere in the world.

Compete by hiking, paddling, trail running, climbing, mountain biking, or photography with a team or by yourself!

Proceeds from the Hike-a-Thon benefit TennGreen Land Conservancy, a 501(c)(3) environmental nonprofit and the oldest accredited statewide land conservancy in Tennessee.

Since 1955, Dogwood Arts has hosted Knoxville’s favorite springtime celebration. What started as a neighborhood beautification project, has blossomed into a year-round celebration of our region’s art, culture, and natural beauty. With the month of April quickly approaching, Dogwood Arts is gearing up to do it all again with events and programs for the entire community to enjoy.

Knoxville’s historic Dogwood Trails date back to 1955 and today cover more than 90 miles in 13 neighborhoods throughout the city. The Dogwood Trails, Open Gardens, and Camera Sites are open April 1-30th and visitors are invited to drive, walk, or bike the Trails as they take in the natural scenic beauty of East Tennessee in the springtime. Open Gardens and Camera Sites are open 10AM-6PM daily.

MFA Thesis Exhibitions - Group 2
In partial fulfillment of their graduation requirements, students pursuing the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree are required to mount a solo exhibition of work, and to defend their work during an oral examination in front of a faculty committee. Due to the number of graduate students enrolled in the UT School of Art, these exhibitions generally take the form of small groups of students presenting concurrent solo exhibitions in the gallery space.

Griffin Allman - I Remember Everything
I Remember Everything is an exhibition of paintings and drawings that utilize elements of both painterly and geometric abstraction, collage, color and gesture to investigate the ways in which the act of making is connected to memory, reinvention, place, and control.

Saloni Parekh - Anarth
This exhibition explores the intricacies of the term 'god,' recognizing historical, mnemonic, and emotional significance, embracing endless possibilities and a continual quest for understanding. Anarth addresses consistencies and inconsistencies within religion that contribute to societal divisions in an effort to generate a new visual vocabulary for what god could be.

The Department of Religious Studies presents Professor Tulasi Srinivas talk "The Runaway Goddess: Water, Caste and Gender in India's Climate Apocalypse"

If water is life, as our popular understanding suggests, we ask what is a life without water? Highlighting the paradox between Hinduism's view of water as female, sacred and sentient, and the endemic pollution of water resources and climate- driven drought in contemporary India, this ethnographic and archival project considers the existential ethics at stake in apocalyptic climate change. Attempting to chart an Anthropology of Grace through the urgent task of repair, the talk seeks to think about anthropology's contributions to deepening our understandings of climate justice through a focus on caste and gender in a time of water scarcity.

Tulasi Srinivas is Professor of Anthropology, Religion and Transnational Studies at the Marlboro Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies at Emerson College. She has served as a Fellow and Colorado Scholar at the Women's Studies in Religion Program at the Harvard Divinity School. She is author of the award-winning books Winged Faith: Rethinking Religious Pluralism and Globalization (2010), Curried Cultures: Globalization, Food and South Asia (2012) and more recently, The Cow in the Elevator: An Anthropology of Wonder (2018). Srinivas has appeared on multiple podcasts and radio shows including NPR and WYNC, and is the winner of several teaching awards and fellowships; at the Radcliffe Institute of Advanced Study, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Berkley Center for Peace, and the Luce-American Council of Learned Societies. Her work has appeared in several scholarly and popular publications including The Immanent Frame, The Boston Globe, Scroll.In, The Economic and Political Weekly, The Conversation, JAAR, Journal of Asian Studies, The Washington Post, CNN, NBC, The Times of India and The Hindu.

Mural Workshop: Six new murals are now on display in the Curio at Maker Exchange as a part of the 2nd Annual Mural Workshop hosted by Dogwood Arts and professional muralist Megan Lingerfelt. Six local/regional artists were selected to participate in the workshop — with each one designing and painting an 8x8ft mural over the last two weeks. The murals will remain on display through the end of May 2024.

Come enjoy several new works from Yigal Ozeri, utilizing AI technology to create the compositions. Photorealism as a genre pushes the line between technology and fine art.

Photorealist, Smithsonian-collected artist, Yigal Ozeri, portrays both sensual fantasy and hyper detailed reality in his photorealistic paintings. His oeuvre is characterized by two distinct styles: ethereal portraiture of women existing in nature “without malice” and a realist perspective of America through a regional lens. Originally an abstract painter, Ozeri took on the helm of realism through early inspiration by Spanish Baroque painters like Diego Velázquez.
