Kidstuff, hosted by Sean McCollough, is a show full of high-quality music geared to kids and the kids at heart airing every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. On most Saturdays, the show is a mix of recorded and live music from inside the WDVX studio. But on the second Saturday of month, everyone is invited to join the audience at the Knoxville Visitors Center for our free live performance edition. Next Saturday, Kukuly, a South American ex-pat who now calls Knoxville home, will take kids on a musical journey through the countries of her native continent! Historic Ramsey House presents an opportunity for song writers and fans to experience a unique music writer’s workshop with acclaimed artists Mary Gauthier, Scott Miller, Jim Lauderdale, Drew Ramsey and Matt Wertz. Spend a day and evening up close and personal in small intimate one hour sessions with some of the country’s best song writers, performers, and producers. Included in this $300 per person package is a special “Writers-in-the-Round” performance presented by the artists on Saturday night. A limited number of tickets for this event will also be available to the public. This is the initial presentation for what is expected to become an annual workshop series.

Proceeds from this fund raising event will go to the Historic 1797 Ramsey House, a property of the Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities. It is on the National Register of Historic Places, and a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization. In order to protect the unique, small group feature of this event, the number of registrants will need to be very limited. Early registration is strongly suggested. We are well under way with our plans for our annual Garden Party at the stunningly beautiful gardens at the home of Ginger and Bill Baxter. This year is actually very special because it is our 10th Annual FCAC Garden Party Luncheon and Auction Benefit!! We're calling it "A Perfect 10!" and hope that many of you will be able to attend. Please come by the Art Center for an invitation or call or email and we’d be glad to send you as many as you need. The party will be held on Saturday, May 10 from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM.

The cost per person to attend the party is $40, still the absolute lowest cost for any event of this magnitude anywhere in Knoxville. If you have never attended, you will be in for a real treat!

The party begins at 11 AM with an opportunity to look at Silent and Live Auction items and socialize while the Ben Maney Jazz Trio plays for us, sponsored by FCAC Board member Linda T. Wise. Sample something from the cash bar while you enjoy the utterly incredible view of the Smoky Mountains. Guests are encouraged to explore the features of the Gardens after lunch: the lily pond, the lotus pond, the gazebo, waterfalls and running streams, a full-sized maze, statuary, fountains, and acres of flowers in season, iris gardens, azalea beds, dogwoods, lilacs, banks of heather and phlox and many other exotic shrubs and trees. Both men and women are encouraged to attend. There is no snobbery involved, just lots of fun, food, and beautiful views from under the big outdoor tent!!

Lunch sandwiches are provided courtesy of the very generous owner of the Fountain City Creamery Park Grille, Jeff Patin. We will also be serving salads and homemade cookies provided by the Fountain City Art Guild.

We will be awarding a prize for the “Best Table” as voted on by guests. Expect some amusing moments when Auctioneers Kenneth W. Clayton, Jr. aka Fabulo Frenzini, and Charles E. Williams, Jr. interact with a “surprise celebrity.” Bring your mom for a Mother’s Day Weekend treat or bring your best friends to share in this favorite Fountain City annual celebration!

LeafPrint Birdbath Class with Mathew McMillan

Spend a Saturday morning at the gardens with Knoxville Botanical Garden's Ground Manager, Mathew McMillan, creating your own garden art. With the sand-casting technique you will learn in this workshop you can sculpt simple to elaborate decorative and functional birdbaths and art to fill your gardens. The workshop will cover materials, sculpting skills, and various finishes, from paints to concrete stains. All materials will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring fresh leaves from their own gardens. Leaves with large veins make the best impressions. Things may get messy so wear your grubbies.
Note: It's best to leave your work at the Garden to cure over the weekend.

MEET ME ON BOURBON STREET

Through the sponsorship of and the power of imagination, Bourbon Street magically appears at Fairfield Glade’s Conference Center on Saturday, May 10, 2014.

The moment you step through the entrance lined with murals depicting old fashioned street lights, balconies with hanging baskets overflowing with colorful flowers, and shadowy figures of musicians lining Bourbon Street, you find yourself in another time and place. Dinner, dancing, art, a party atmosphere, choice auction items and music will be part of your evening.

Nashville musicians of the Roux du Bayou Band will provide a wide array of music to enjoy. Music will range from Mardi gras to Motown to Cajun to Rock n’ Roll to Country to R & B and from the Oldies. Band members play a variety of instruments including Guitar, Mandolin, Drums, Accordion, Fiddle, and Piano.

Laissez les bon temps rouler; let the good times roll! New Orleans’ Bourbon Street and its colorful French Quarter are coming to Fairfield Glade for one magical “Meet Me on Bourbon Street” event. This entertaining Art Guild fundraiser is set for Saturday, May 10, from 5:30 – 9:30 p.m., at Fairfield Glade's Conference Center on Stonehenge Drive.

Stepping through the event entrance, participants will find themselves transported to another time and place with murals depicting old fashioned street lights, balconies full of colorful hanging floral baskets, and shadowy figures of musicians lining Bourbon Street. Greeters will welcome guests into a world of sparkle and bling.

Evening festivities include a cocktail hour with cash bar, a tasty New Orleans-style buffet, musical entertainment by the Roux du Bayou Band (foot tapping or dancing is encouraged), and a silent auction of desirable items. The buffet menu will be filled with New Orleans’ standouts.
After a night’s festivities in the Big Easy, partiers will go home with smiling faces, knowing that they had a great time at this entertaining fundraiser.

2014 marks a milestone anniversary with the Dogwood Arts Festival: it is the 60th year since the Dogwood Trails were conceived by a visionary Trail Committee!
