McClung Museum: Family Fun Day: A Soldier's Day

Join us for free a free Family Fun Day featuring activities, crafts, tours, and more. This month we will tour the museum’s Civil War exhibition with curator Joan Markel focusing on a soldier’s experience of the war. All materials will be provided. The program is free and open to the public. Reservations are not necessary.

Sequoyah Birthplace Museum: Native American History Month Free Lecture

Join us at Sequoyah Birthplace Museum as we celebrate Native American Month with a free lecture presentation featuring Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians enrolled member, Sonny Ledford. He will be lecturing on Cherokee culture. Sonny Ledford is an enrolled member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and a cultural ambassador for the Eastern Band and has traveled extensively participating in historical Cherokee programs all over the southeast coast and Midwest, including Colonial Williamsburg. He is one of the original members of the Ani-Kituwah warriors for the past 14 years. He worked at the Cherokee Historical Association for 22 years. Currently Sonny works for the Museum of Cherokee Indian.

Kiln Opening and Sale at Peter Rose Pottery

I'd like to invite you and your friends to come out to my fall kiln opening and pottery sale on Saturday, November 12th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, November 13th from noon to 5 p.m.

We had a great firing this year and I've filled the kiln with a huge variety of handcrafted pots and animal sculptures just waiting inside to be discovered. I'll start unloading the kiln at 10 a.m. on Saturday - come out and see for yourself. It will be a great opportunity to do some early holiday shopping.

Kiln Opening Dates:
Saturday, November 12th, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Sunday, November 13th, noon to 5 p.m.

My studio and kiln are located at 6319 Tazewell Pike, Knoxville, TN 37918.

Take I-40 East or West to I-640. Take Exit 6 off I-640, north on Broadway and follow the signs to "Tazewell Pike." Turn right on Tazewell Pike at the first traffic light (by Pratt's Country Store). I am 6 miles away on Tazewell Pike, the first driveway on the left past Atkins Road.

Bearden High School Theatre Department presents the eight-time Tony award-winning musical masterpiece, Les Misérables, which tells Victor Hugo’s tale of the struggle between justice and mercy in the unforgiving world set against the backdrop of 19th-century revolutionary France. The magnificent score features classic songs “I Dreamed a Dream," "On My Own," "Stars," "Bring Him Home," "Do You Hear the People Sing?," "One Day More," "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables," "Master of the House" and many more!

Performances are November 10-12 at 7:30 PM and November 13 at 2:30 PM.

Zoo Knoxville: Dollar Days with $1 Admission

Zoo Knoxville will be offering $1 admission with the donation of a non-perishable food item or pet food Nov. 10-13, 2016, during their Dollar Days event. During the Dollar Days event, general zoo admission tickets for ages four and up are $1 each and parking is free. To ensure a safe and pleasant experience for Dollar Days guests, a limited number of tickets are available for each day, and advance online purchase is required. Tickets can be purchased online at zooknoxville.org beginning at noon on Monday, Oct. 31, 2016.

Dollar Days attendees should also bring a non-perishable food item or bagged or canned dog or cat food donation in addition to each ticket to help other local non-profit organizations Mission of Hope, Young-Williams Animal Center, and Knox County Office on Aging’s Knox PAWS program. Dollar Days tickets are valid only for the date printed on the ticket and no rain checks will be offered for this special event. Tickets will not be sold at the zoo’s ticket window on the days of the event. Dollar Days will take place rain or shine. Limit six tickets per order.
