James White's Fort: HearthScares Tours

Come and join the spirits for a tour of Downtown Knoxville’s scariest landmarks. The tours, which last approximately two hours each, will visit the sites of some of Knoxville’s best-kept secrets. The tour will be about one and a half miles in length. All tours begin and end at James White’s Fort located at the intersection of Hill Avenue and Hall of Fame Drive. Ample free parking is available for tour participants at the Fort.

Tours are given October 17, 18, 22, 24, 28, 29, & 30th 7-9PM. Please plan to arrive between 6:30-6: 45 pm for check-in. Each tour will end with a marshmallow roast around the fires at the Fort.

Admission for Adults 16 and over will be $10.00 and $6.00 for children ages 6–15.

Reservations are requested for large groups of 12 or more and may be made by calling the Fort at (865) 525–6514.

The October Masterworks program is about folk music, memory and heritage, opening with contemporary composer Jesse Montgomery’s “Records from a Vanishing City,” a piece inspired by the composer’s experiences growing up in New York City’s Lower East Side. Internationally renowned pianist Natasha Paremski performs Edvard Grieg’s beloved Piano Concerto in A, which contains a wealth of Norwegian folk music influences. The program concludes with Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 7, composed to reflect the struggles of the Czech nation in the late 19th century.

Each concert includes a 30-minute pre-concert chat at 6:30 p.m. with conductor and guest artist, allowing an up-close Q&A session, insights and background to the music. Art Guild of Tellico Village: October Meeting with Curtiss Brock

The Art Guild of Tellico Village will have the privilege of presenting internationally known glass artist who has a vast amount of Career Highlights including NICHE Arts educator of the year, 2009 and Shimono Sake Museum Prize, International Glass Now Competition, 1998. He holds many fellowship grants Nationally and regionally.

Curtiss Brock received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1984 from Goddard College in Vermont and then his Masters of Fine Arts in 1994 from the University of Illinois. An established glass artist with a presence in museum collections around the world, Brock founded CB Glass as a vehicle for developing limited edition blown glass pieces that focus on function and originality of design. He challenges himself as a craftsman and a designer to create accessible work. Brock’s ideas come to life as a result of day-to-day practice and calloused hands. He is persistently interested in the way light and glass interact. Many of his pieces change colors or cast beautiful shadows in the presence of strong light. Friends of Music and the Arts: The Kingdom Choir

At the Episcopal Church of the Ascension

The Kingdom Choir has embarked on its inaugural tour of the United States and FOMA feels privileged to be able to present these esteemed musicians in Knoxville. A London-based ensemble, The Kingdom Choir first came to prominence in this country after singing Stand By Mefor the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle in May of 2018. Founded in 1994 by Karen Gibson (named the "Godmother of Gospel" by The Guardian), the choir draws from various Christian traditions and is dedicated to creating a sound that reflects the community they share through their warm energy and enthusiastic performances. The choir's rendition of Stand By Mewent straight to the top of the Billboard charts and they have released their first full-length album worldwide on Sony Music. Their success at the royal wedding has already seen them on several UK and American television outlets, including ABC's Good Morning America, CBS's This Morning, and NBC's Today Show. On this tour The Kingdom Choir will consist of sixteen singers and two backline band musicians, all under the direction of Ms. Gibson. For its Knoxville appearance the choir will announce selections from its extensive repertoire from the stage.
